I currently am on the tech group at CAAR (Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors) and we often get into some very interesting discussions.
Now I often talk with Charles McDonald (local AR Blogger) who is a much more vocal member of our tech group and of course the other members of our group.
Recently we have been seeing members/agents recording sales twice in our MLS. This can happen because a home is allowed to be entered 2 times. Here is an example: a property can be put in once as a “residential” listing and again as a “farm”.
When the property sells, the agent closes both listings as “SOLD” which is totally mis-leading as it shows that the sales are twice as much as reality.
Now the agents are smart enough to know that they only Sold the property “one” time.
One should be recorded as Sold and the other Withdrawn in our MLS…
This has been brought this to the attention of the tech group (not to point fingers at any one agent) but to find a solution so that this no longer happens…
Our MLS will soon be starting a “citation manager” which will impose fines for abuse of our MLS.
Agents: do you have fines imposed at your MLS? Have you had this problem?
