Today and tomorrow tie in events over 40 years in the making.
Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday is celebrated today, had a famous dream of a nation where each person, regardless of their own situation, would be able to live and work together with others. Some say his dream was over simplified and out of reach, but, sometimes, it is the simple things in life that prove to be the most powerful.
Tomorrow, America will inaugurate a new president – one whose ancestry encompasses every conceivable range of possibilities, proving that it is possible for any one person to become the leader of a country that was founded on the principles of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” regardless of the struggles along the way.
It has taken 40 years for Dr. King’s dream to come to fruition, but, as this is the case with all things worth waiting for, it proves the power of having a dream in the first place!
