Lake Monticello History and Historical Attractions
Lake Monticello is located in Fluvanna County. According to the Fluvanna Chamber of Commerce website the area which is now Fluvanna County was part of one of the original shires of the Virginia Colony. The county was named for the Fluvanna River, which is the name given to the James River west of Columbia. Fluvanna means “Annie’s River in honor of Queen Anne of England.
